About Southampton, England Port

There is perhaps no more culturally significant port in the world, so book a cruise leaving from Southampton if you want to be part of the spectacular maritime history of this part of the world.

Southampton was the port from which the Mayflower set sail for the United States and was also used as a strategic location during the Second World War. A cruise leaving from Southampton allows you to visit the New Forest National Park which dates from 1079 and would have been the exclusive hunting ground of the Royal family in the days of old. The city is also close to other spots of interest such as Bargate which was built in 1180 and is a wall meant to encircle and protect the city. The history doesn’t stop there however, and you can also visit the Tudor House & Garden which is just like stepping back in time to the 1500s.

Put simply, when you book a cruise from Southampton, you will get to experience some of the great heritage of old-world cruising while enjoying all that this part of England has to offer.

Destination FAQ

When is the best time to visit the Caribbean?

Peak season in the Caribbean is usually from December to April as this is when the weather is less humid and a little cooler. This is also the busiest season so if you want to avoid the crowds then you may want to consider visiting from April to May.

Does the Caribbean experience hurricanes?

Yes. Hurricane season is usually from September to October although heavy rain can often start as early as June. You can still join a cruise at this time however and if there is a hurricane then the ship will usually simply change course to avoid it. Passenger safety is paramount and staff will monitor all weather systems and take appropriate action if necessary.

Will I get seasick on a Caribbean Cruise?

Different people have different reactions to being on a ship and motion sickness can be a problem. If you are worried about seasickness however then a cruise is an excellent choice as the waters in the Caribbean are known for being mostly calm which should greatly reduce your chances of feeling unwell.

What clothes should I bring on a Caribbean Cruise?

As the weather in the Caribbean is warm you do not need to pack many extra layers, although you may want to bring a light sweater or jacket for all eventualities. Many guests opt to bring shorts, light long sleeved clothing, and a range of swimwear. Also think about packing some good walking shoes for any onshore excursions.

Cruise Line FAQ

1. Can solo travelers join a Cunard Cruise?

Of course! Solo travelers are welcome on all Cunard Cruises and this is a great way to meet like-minded travelers. There are a range of events for solo travelers such as cocktail parties and you can also join events like guest lectures and games nights.

2. Can children travel on Cunard Cruises?

Yes! Depending on the cruise itinerary children can travel on Cunard providing they are over the age of 6 months (in some cases 1 year). They also provide entertainment options for children from the ages of 2-17.

3. How many Formal Nights are there on a Cunard Cruise?

One of the things that Cunard is best known for is its formal nights which are a strong part of its cruise heritage. Depending on the length of the cruise and the individual itinerary, there are usually around 2-5 formal nights per cruise.

4. Can I access the internet on Cunard Cruises?

Yes! Internet is provided on all cruises for an extra fee so you can stay connected while you are at sea.
